JHS RETURN TO SCHOOL PLAN



  • Symptoms and positive cases
    • Those who exhibit COVID symptoms while at school, will be isolated in the current bank area until pick-up can occur. (Not being used this year as a bank, per PFCU, due to COVID.)
    • Please refer to the approved Board guidelines in Appendix C related to positive cases in the school or district.   
  • Canvas, OneNote, etc. 
    • Teachers are expected to have everything online (Canvas, OneNote, etc.)
      • For those students that are out due to COVID symptoms or positive cases
      • In case we have to move to eLearning for everyone on short notice
  • Social distancing
    • Encouraged throughout the building
    • No hallway locker usage for first semester
    • Shortened passing periods.  (We will be moving to four minutes for passing periods)
    • Classroom structure- We encourage teachers to remove all furniture that is not needed to allow for spreading out desks and tables. (These items can be placed in the hallway with a note to store for the year.)  Desks and tables should all face the same direction.  Encourage classes to move outside when possible.  (IE, choir, art, PE.)
  • Field trips
    • (with the exception of ECAs), assemblies, pep sessions, dances, HOF ceremony, etc. are canceled or postponed until 2nd semester or the 21-22 school year.  
  • Masks
    • Everyone is required to wear a mask
    • “Masks must cover the mouth and nose and must be similar in nature to those provided by the state for student use.”
    • Students will be asked to provide their own masks, although there will be a limited amount available in case of emergencies.  
    • Exceptions- While eating and drinking and for those with medical conditions or sensory concerns that provide medical documentation.    
    • We will allow gaiters as well as handkerchiefs within the dress code.  
  • Water and hand sanitizer
    • Water fountains will be turned off and students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, hand sanitizer and gloves.  
    • Water bottle refill stations will remain open if possible (All updated restrooms have these stations located outside the entrance.)
  • PPE Supplies and signs
    • Students are encouraged to bring their own wipes and hand sanitizer.(Supplies will be provided in each classroom as well.)
    • Sneeze guards will be used when necessary such as piano labs where pianos face each other, welcome desks, guidance offices, support staff offices that deal directly with the public, etc.  
    • All staff members will receive ample hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, wipes, etc. for their individual classrooms
    • Signage will be placed throughout the building with reminders to social distance, wear masks, etc. 
    • Supplies will be provided to labs in which equipment is shared such as construction, auto, art, manufacturing, computer labs, music labs, etc. 
  • PE
    • PE will follow the plan that is very similar to the athletic departments return to practices in relation to exercise and equipment
    • Locker rooms usage will need to be tiered for students who choose to change to ensure social distancing 
    • No lockers will be available for usage
  • Visitors
    • We will restrict visitors to “by appointment only” as much as possible
    • All visitors will be required to wear a mask
    • Any guest speakers or visitors to teacher classrooms must be pre-approved by the Principal 
  • Arrival and start of school day
    • Students will have a staggered dismissal from buses, beginning at 7:40am.
    • Students will grab breakfast at three different locations in the building and report to first period (Cafeteria and gym will be closed. Benches will be removed from commons areas, etc.)  They will have to eat breakfast in the classroom.  
    • First bell will ring at 7:55am, with school to start at 8:00am (This in order to both limit students in the building in large groups as well as to allow buses ample time to get to their elementary routes.)
  • Dismissal
    • We will follow a tiered dismissal like we did two years ago. 
      • Top floor dismissed at 3:13pm
      • Bottom floor dismissed at 3:14pm
      • Main floor dismissed at 3:15pm
  • Lunch periods
    • We will be moving to four lunch periods every day.  
    • Tables will be placed in the lobby as well as the vending area to help encourage social distancing.  
    • Transition time to and from lunch has been decreased to avoid socializing and to squeeze in a fourth lunch.  Two minutes to get to lunch and three minutes to return from lunch.
    • Markings on the floor as well as tables will indicate expectations with social distancing in the cafeteria. 
    • Branding Iron and Pony Espresso have worked closely with the local health department to ensure they are following all local health dept/CDC guidelines for serving. (Their plan will be approved by the Board Monday evening.)
  • Daily schedule- Move to Traditional Block Schedule for first semester 
    • Due to the need to move to four lunches, every day, we cannot have a Broncho Day during these restrictions.  
    • We will move (for at least the first semester) to a traditional block schedule.  Red weeks and black weeks.  IE., during a Red Week, students will have red day classes M-W-F and black day classes will be held on TU-TH.  On black weeks, students will have black day classes M-W-F and red day classes will be held on TU-TH.   
  • “Open House” is canceled
    • Students will be allowed in the building to walk their schedules (No parents)
    • Seniors- Thurs, Aug 13th from 10-2pm
    • Juniors- Fri, Aug 14th from 10-2pm
    • Sophomores- Mon, August 17th from 10-2pm
    • Freshmen- Tues, August 18th from 2-6-pm
